Sculpt Bonanza!

Hey there Moonstone Hunters!

Before I answer the question on everyones lips (when do I get my stuff!) first let me distract you with an absolute bonanza of new shineys to feast your eyes upon! Our sculptors have been very hard at work this month - so much so there is now only 3 sculpts remaining before the entire range is complete!

Right, so now I've buttered you up a bit, heres the bad news - we have experienced more delays on the miniature production. The issues are as follows:

  • Beaky Bobby is being remastered as the shrinkage was too bad in his coat.
  • Diana is proving difficult to cast in metal, we also need loads of her. That's going to be the main delay. Rob at Hysterical Games is confident it can be done but its a learning curve working on such delicate miniatures as the faeries.
  • Resin production is almost complete. Fritz and Agatha needed to be edited and reprinted due to thin parts and are now the only ones besides Bobby and Dianna left to finish in resin.
  • Shabaroon, McBoom, Quack, Flintlock, Fancyhat and Vicious Midget are all complete in metal and just need to be counted up and double checked, the rest are in the que but metal production is fast and each character can be completed in 1-2 days and the moulds are ready to be spun.
  • Friar Flavius is proving difficult to cast in metal due to his bulk holding a lot of heat. He needs to be cast in small bursts not to run the mould into the ground.
  • The metal mould for Seasick Stu died before his full quota was produced. A new mould is being made from a harder rubber.

So there we are, nothing too terrible but we are having a few teething issues, especially on the metal side of things. Huge apology for the delay but we are now targeting late September for Wave 1 shipping. Thank you all for your patience. We know its hard! We want to get these goodies out to you even more than you want to receive them I assure you!

Dear Moonstone Hunters!

It is with a joyous heart that we bring you tremendous news!

As a response to an almost overwhelming demand, we have been able to move some numbers around, and have been able to make arrangements for you to be able to add the incredibly characterful Kaufman to your very own Wave 2 pledges ahead of the official retail release!

Will Kaufman be yours?
Will Kaufman be yours?

That's right! This beautiful miniature can be yours early, dispatched during Wave 2 shipping, and only for the meagre sum of £7.00 in metal, and £9.00 in resin!

Should you want to get your hands on this cracking model, all you need do is contact us via email or private message and we will be able to make arrangements for payment via PayPal.

But that's not all Moonstone fans! Oh no! That large pile you see above? That is over five feet of product that has been received at Firestorm Games, our handler for the Moonstone Kickstarter.

Now this is not all the Wave 1 product, and there are still a number of items we are waiting on, but we are expecting them very soon, and once they have all arrived, they will be winging their way out of Firestorm Games' doors, straight to yours!

But first, how about a sneak peek of the contents of one of the boxes... with yet another box!

What's in the box?
What's in the box?

Now I know what you are all thinking, "What about the models?" Well don't worry dearest Moonstoners! Below is an up close, shot of none other than our token free miniature; Diana, Queen of the Fae!

Diana, Queen of the Fae, in resin form
Diana, Queen of the Fae, in resin form

As you can see, she is a true stunner! And yes, her base is included with the model, in fact, if you look closely, it is part of the model!

There is a very simple reason behind this, all the Faeries come with scenic bases, largely because the Faeries themselves are quite small miniatures, this way we can help you to really make them POP!

Kaufman - Human Noble
almost 7 years ago – Sun, Jul 23, 2017 at 01:34:47 AM

Dear Moonstone hunters!

Today we bring you some hotly anticipated news, for those who may not remember, during our campaign we had a single pledge available to create your own character in Moonstone, well the results are in, and we are super proud to reveal Kaufman, the Human Noble:

Kaufman, Sculpt by Tom Lishman
Kaufman, Sculpt by Tom Lishman

As you can see, despite being conceptualised by one of our backers, Kaufman is no different in terms of detail, imagination, and character to any of our other models and to back this up has some very unique game mechanics utilising a variety of model and board manipulation.

Now you might be wondering how to get your own copy of this model, right? Well now, hold your horses Moonstone fans, we'd love to include this beauty of a model in your pledges, but ol' Kaufman here is for the time being exclusive to the backer who created him, however we fully intend for him to become available in the near future once we hit retail as a webstore exclusive as well as the first of our Book 2 Troupe Boxes, Rags to Riches.

What's that? Yes you did hear correct, I did indeed mention a Book 2! But more of that in the months to come.

---

And now for the not so great news...

So we've recently had a few developments in terms of production. Despite everyone's best attempts to avoid it, complications have arisen, that has pushed back production by what we initially anticipate to be an additional 3 weeks.

  • Out of these complications, Agatha, Grub, and Fritz have had to be reviewed and reprinted before casting, this has meant that we've been unable to produce the moulds for them just yet, but do not worry, they are coming.
  • Flintlock and Seasick Stu, their production moulds have worn out much faster than we had anticipated, this is caused by deep undercuts on the models which while making models look fantastic, has created this issue. New moulds are being produced and casting is due to continue.
  • Friar Flavius is proving a very difficult model to cast in metal. His production is still going ahead, but it is taking longer than we would have hoped.
  • Doug the Flatulent's lance has been developing air bubbles in the middle of it, so his mould has been remade, and production re-run for him.
  • Diana, the Queen of the Fae has been printed this week. What this means is that she still needs to be master moulded, then master cast, and then production moulded for both resin and metal, and then of course production cast.

As you can see, these are all issues which by themselves may not cause much of a problem, but when happening at the same time (as is often the case for entire range productions such as these), then they can cause delays.

We hope that this potential 3 week delay won't cause too many problems for you, and if anything it helps to give you a little insight into the sort of problems faced when casting miniatures.

Rocks, Friends!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Jul 07, 2017 at 03:54:17 PM

Dear Moonstone Hunters,

My what a couple of weeks! Firstly, our head designer took a trip over to our distributor, the awesome Firestorm Games in Cardiff, and whilst there he got to see for himself the large growing pile of components which will soon make up Wave 1 of the KickStarter delivery. Now we are still awaiting delivery of a number of crucial items, and we hope in the near future to be able to share with you a good photo or two showcasing all of these great items.

We have also been listening to you, and we've heard you. We know that you want to know when you will be getting your hands on this great game. Well, we've done the maths and, based on current projections, it looks like Wave 1 will be leaving us around early to mid August. This is largely down to delays in getting vital items from both China and Australia, but you can be rest assured, once everything arrives, we will be giving everyone the opportunity to update their delivery details if needed and then a week or so later everything will be heading straight out!

Now, you may also be wondering if any of these announcements apply for you, maybe you ordered some Wave 2 items? Or possibly everything in resin? Well, where we had initially advertised that resin may take a short while longer to ship, our caster has been pulling the impossible, and it looks like the resin orders will be ready at the same time as the metal! In addition to this, it's important to remember that this is only Wave 1 which is shipping. That is our base releases with none of the stretch goals. If you only ordered these items, and no stretch goals, or 'Wave 2' items, then yes! Yours will be in this shipping bulk! If you did order Wave 2 items, but you also purchased the 'Split Shipping' addon, then yes, you will receive your Wave 1 items with this shipment, with your Wave 2 items to follow.

If however you ordered some Wave 2 items, and did not add split shipping, then I am afraid you will need to wait until the secondary shipment takes place around winter time.

***

Now then, what's that? Yes you did hear right! Wave 2! And to tease you about these upcoming items we are super proud to show off a work in progress for one of Wave 2's most anticipated sculpts:

Boulder, the Troll. Sculpted by Tom Lishman
Boulder, the Troll. Sculpted by Tom Lishman

Boulder is one of our favourites here in the Goblin Castle, both on the game due to his numerous tactical utilities, and as a sculpt. Personally, I am a huge fan of his body proportions, from his long neck, to his ridiculously long arms, and the little rocks darted around him as jewellery. It is safe to say that this model will be one you will be proud to display admist your collection!

Let the metal flow!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, Jun 23, 2017 at 08:14:17 PM

Dear Moonstone Hunters,

Today we have the pleasure of sharing with you something truly special: an inside look at the process for casting metal miniatures!

Like us, we know that a number of you have been long term collectors, painters, and gamers, with enough metal, plastic, and resin to choke a Troll, but how much do we really know about the process of casting the metal side of things? The medium of miniature that for so many of us feature as 'classic' material.

Enter Hysterical Games, the company who are responsible for casting the very Moonstone Miniatures that you have helped bring to life!

Stage 1: Master Moulds
Stage 1: Master Moulds

The first step is to create masters. These are the highest quality of detail possible, however the material is very brittle, under no circumstance could you use these on the tabletop.

Stage 2: Imprint the mould
Stage 2: Imprint the mould

Once you have the masters, you then press these into the metal moulds which you can see here.

At this stage the mould isn't ready, yes it holds the imprints, but a mould need channels for the medium to flow through.

Stage 3: Channels
Stage 3: Channels

Once the channels for the metal to flow have been added, we are ready to start feeding the medium into the mould.

Stage 4: Feed the metal
Stage 4: Feed the metal

Once done, you now have metal models being formed within the mould, here we have non other than Quack being created in his mould!

Stage 5: The Miniature
Stage 5: The Miniature

Assuming you have done everything correctly, you now have a metal miniature ready to go!

As always, if you wish to get more involved and stay at the forefront of Moonstone information, you should head over to the Moonstone Development Group on Facebook!

We hope you have enjoyed this peek behind the scenes into something that is a lesser known side to the miniature hobby, and thank you for your time.
